salvage info and event registration

With warmer weather on the horizon (not just global warming) the digging season is drawing towards a short term close. We have two more events scheduled for this month and will then be focusing on our next round of grant applications, management and distribution of plants on hand, and construction of additional plant salvage propagation and holding facilities at the Meadow Park Golf Course.

Greetings Native Plant Salvage Volunteers - Grab your garden party hat and bring a bottle for some worm compost tea!  We have one more event scheduled for this season:

Saturday, March 29, 2008 - Mad Hatter's Tea and Planting Party - 9:00 - noon

This FREE and FUN event is open to the public be held at the Meadow Park Golf Course  (7108 Lakewood Drive West - Tacoma, WA 98467 - 253-473-3033)

We will be preparing portions of the golf course for restoration of prairie natives dug in Frederickson/SE Tacoma. The planting effort will move the golf course towards a more sustainable future that uses less water and fewer chemicals.

We will also be talking about soils and demonstrating information about the brewing and effective uses of compost tea!.  Information will also be available regarding soils and how to enhance them for a garden that thrives. Best hat worn will get best honors! Camas bulbs will be available for volunteers who help us with the preparations!

If you'd like to learn more about this event, please contact me at 253.566.3342, or better by e-mail at anna.thurston@ssstewardship.org.

If you haven't registered with us in the past, be sure to provide us with your mailing address, a phone number and an e-mail. If you'd like to removed from our distribution list (something we don't share), please reply, with "Unsubscribe NPSA" listed in the subject line.

If you are already on our distribution list, we'll notify you of any salvaging or potting activities that occur during the summer months, and again in September/October when rainfall allows us to resume digging in earnest. In the interim we hope you'll check into our website (with NEW UPDATES provided by our volunteer web manager, Lee Fellenberg). Be sure to look at the section that provides information on how to salvage and propagate native plants on your own, which plants grow best together, plus our collection of event photos… (always being updated).

Don't forget to bring your hat and a bottle to take home some compost tea! See you there...
